SimCity Pilot Tested at Jordan Glen School, Archer Florida Fall 2014

The objective of the SimCity project is to develop transportation related modules for middle school-aged students utilizing the video game SimCity (simcity.com) to foster interest in the transportation profession as a career choice.

Based on a typical class period time frame of 45 minutes, a 9-week course was developed. Existing tutorials within the software are utilized during the first five weeks with student questionnaires developed that focus on transportation, planning and engineering. The remaining four weeks the students compete to build a successful city based on a matric criteria.

The course was piloted at Jordan Glen School in Archer Florida due to its unique afternoon elective schedule where students can select from a variety of courses. The secondary education students were exposed to computers, urban and regional planning, mathematics, civil and transportation engineering.
