Lawton Chiles Elementary, Gainesville FL - Spring 2012

At this event, parents and their children attended an evening abounding with fun STEM focused activities at Lawton Chiles Elementary School in Gainesville, Fla. (pictured below). The event was hosted by the WTS UF and UFITE student chapters and the UF Transportation Research Center (TRC) and supervised by Leslie Washburn, workforce development coordinator for STRIDE. Sponsors included the UF College of Engineering and the City of Gainesville. Seventy-three families attended with a total of 120 elementary aged students participating in the various activities offered. Activities were designed to encourage children to think of engineering concepts and were designed to be team-driven by children and their parents.
